Water
water is my favorite element. it can take so many forms. each form is so different, yet it is always the same.
ice. my favorite form. i love ice skating. it's a great stress reliever from school, society, and reality. it requires complete concentration and yet no thinking at all. it never ceases to amaze me that i can still learn not only academically but physically as well. sure my center of gravity is higher than an eight yr. old's so things are a little more difficult, but it's still fun.
snow. i discovered skiing on a family trip to lake tahoe. i never thought gravity could be so much fun. (though my fear of heights made the ski lifts were a little frightening). the most amazing thing to me about skiing is that it doesn't hurt to fall on snow. i don't know, the thought never occurred to me that snow would be soft. after all, i grew up in houston where snow occurs at most once every eight years or so in the form of slushy rain.
rain. despite being a 'germaphobe' i still love playing in the rain. of course, i don't think it's quite safe to play in the rain in houston with all the pollution...
water. when i can't get out to a ice skating rink, swimming is always a terrific option. though i don't have great form or grace when swimming, i love it. gliding through water, feeling it move around you, absolutely enthralls me. it reminds me of the summer days i spent as a kid at the neighborhood swimming pool with friends pretending to be mermaids, dolphins, and other magical sea creatures. it reminds me of the heartfelt conversations i had with michelle when we would go to the pool to exercise and avoid playing piano. but best of all, it reminds me of the good times i had growing up.
