i've had coffee

can anyone tell? okay so obviously from my earlier post i had coffee this morning. it was good. i've been trying to be good and stay off coffee, but this morning, i just felt like i NEEDED it. maybe i should NEED it more often. of course now it's midnight and i have to wake up early tomorrow so maybe it wasn't such a good idea to have two cups, but once you get started it's so good.

i made the light costa rican roast this morning - turned darker than normal, it's been a while since i've made coffee. i think my personality is more colorful when i've had coffee. not sure if that's a good thing or bad.

okay back to the serious subject - since moving to this slightly scary city on the east coast with the impending snow, i've missed something a lot. a nice big weekend breakfast. if you know me from seattle, it's brown bag cafe. if you know me from houston it's either dimsum or ihop. i didn't say it was american breakfast. but they all have one thing in common - it's a great time to reconnect with people. the week is over, it's the weekend, it's breakfast - i can't think of many people who don't like it. sure some people who aren't awake for it, but i've never heard anyone say "i don't like breakfast." so yeah i get breakfast out here, but it's not the same... just doesn't feel as comfortable - i always feel like i'm on the go. and really having breakfast with the people you see every day of the week is not as nice as breakfast with someone you haven't seen in awhile... alas, i will be back in seattle in january perhaps someone will have breakfast with me then :)

stuffing debate

inside vs. outside? i vote inside. health experts are saying inside bad. but the outside stuff just isn't the same. none of that nice fat juice dripping onto bread making it moist with the onions and celery. i discovered stove top which isn't a bad alternative, but i really prefer the actual stuffing - not that i've ever made it myself, but my faithful friends have. apparently if you're good, you can get TWO loaves inside the bird. don't ask me the logistics. i've never cooked a turkey in my life. i tried to help my mom once, but we both didn't know what that bag inside the bird was... luckily we threw it out.

okay so back to the debate... what are the qualities of outside? if the bird doesn't get done... i don't get salmonella(sp?) from the stuffing? the size of the bird doesn't limit the amount of stuffing i can make... yeah that's all i can think of.

inside wins. :)

another week

concludes. We watched B.J. Diary 2 (yeah it's not the actual title, but you get the idea). A's idea not mine maybe surprisingly but not so suprising to some. Regardless as Ivy & I would usually say, "it's a rental." now what does that mean? it's not a bad movie, if you have nothing else to do and are in the mood for a nice movie it's alright to sit through. is there any reason to watch it on the big screen? no. no special effects, nothing exceptionally exciting that must be seen on the big screen. hence, rental.

i see the value of going to the movie theater as 1) time spent with friends - out and about instead of just sitting at home 2) cool special effects on big screens - this does not include that free hand camera that makes me absolutely nauseated 3) chance to put your feet up on top of unsuspecting people's heads 4) maybe the surround sound system, but really if you're at Irwin's it's a toss up which is better 5) people watching - where they sit, what they where, dates, etc. it's so much fun to hypothesize. so... that's why i pay my $6 (student discount :)).

coffee

i am slowly learning why so much of the world likes a cup of coffee in the morning. it really is a great way to start the day off... maybe this will stimulate a few more brain cells.

perhaps

i should make my spam blocking stronger. i think the most offensive comment was just posted on my blog by a sick sick person. i've deleted it now, but it disturbs me...

on another note, i was reading someone else's blog this morning and i totally emphathize with her. i have few/no girl friends. i hang out with guys mainly maybe it just comes with the territory, but i think in general i've always hung out with guys. a lot of girls i've met recently are nice, but with my schedule, obsession with getting things done early, and general fatigue i just don't really get out much perpetuating my lack of female interaction. i am trying to go out a little bit more now though. we'll see how i do - finals and the holidays are coming up soon...

exhausted

for some reason today i was exhausted. despite having coffee midday which was a bit of an adventure - i am tired and it's only 9pm. i have one presentation to practice and go over and some more random homework.

i think i've been consumed by food. okay so it's not horrific or anything, but the minute my mind starts thinking about cooking i'm focused on it. i have to write grocery lists and think about what's in the fridge. it gets bad. my pantry is stocked to feed an army with enough dessert stuff to make an entire kindergarten class hyper.

i've decided that i'm good at two things primarily: cooking and baking. so i'm not spectacular but they've never posed a terrible challenge to me maybe that's why i like them. okay well back to the challenging stuff in my life.

baltimore

I'm slowly getting used to it. I had dinner w/ Nelson today and it was nice. I walked to Cheesecake Factory from the house and the weather wasn't so bad. Crisp and a bit on the chilly side, but all in all not horrible. (I hear we're in for some colder weather in the next few days.) Dinner was good - I haven't been to Cheesecake Factory in a while and it was good catching up with Nelson. On the walk home I noticed that Federal Hill isn't really so bad looking especially at night. People are out walking and the streets are fairly well lit. Minus the police sirens in the background I might have forgotten where i was. A lot of the houses look like they did in the 1900s and the ambience almost made me feel like i was in the 1900s minus the fact that I was listening to my iPod on the way home. Anyways i took some more pictures of the house and i'll put them up sometime soon.

my journal

no more comments :( sorry i'm tired of dealing w/ blog spam. it's dwindled, but for some reason spam bots think that lots of people must read this site or must click on random comments about pharmaceuticals etc.

so if you have a comment, just email me. most of you guys know my email address otherwise you know someone who knows and that's cool too.

i'm feeling better. i've been eating a lot of chocolate lately and the whole halloween weekend just continued that trend. i've had a little bit of free time today so i uploaded some more pictures to brendan's site. if you know where it is, well then go look. otherwise again just ask me and i'll email you the link.

i sent in my form for becoming a foster home with the SPCA. They haven't called me back yet :(. i guess what's meant to be is meant to be. slowly thanksgiving plans are solidifying though i'm not sure exactly where i'll be and when. i'll definitely be in texas for the majority of the holidays. i'm looking forward to good food again and a nice mild winter.
