The holidays are coming upon us. They just don't seem as fun as they were when I was a kid. The whole world seems to have changed this year. I've lost some of my faith in humanity. It's sad, but really I think it's just part of growing older and discovering more of the world. You'd like to think that the person next to you would help you if you fell, but really that would depend upon the compassion of the person next to you. It's not a given that any stranger on the street will help you. Chances are they will take advantage of your situation. Strange how pessimistic I've become, or have I always been this way?
I wouldn't say the holidays are that depressing. I like the lights and the trees. The National Christmas tree is nice and I am glad that we're calling them Christmas trees again rather than holiday trees. Really, do we call a menorah a holiday menorah? (Sorry if I misspelled that.)
I made latkes (thanks to Eric for the recipe). I had some people tell me that they're supposed to be thicker. who knew? I just like them nice and crunchy. That is one extremely enjoyable thing about the holidays, all the food! I've made more sour cream coffee cakes than I care to recount at the moment, and I'll be making one more before the year is up. I also have 3 bananas in my fridge for a banana bread if I have the time...
Happy Eatings!
