test

okay no new spam comments since the last time i posted... is it too soon to just take a breath? i'm still looking at WordPress, but I like the back end to Movable Type better... can't i have my cake and eat it too? Today's Ivy's birthday so everyone say happy birthday to her. She's a year older and soon I will be too.

I leave Seattle Saturday... yesterday we packed the car to make sure that everything fit. it almost all did. I think it's going to take some creative puzzle fitting skills. Luckily i'm good at puzzlefighter and ivy kicks butt at tetris and 5000+ piece puzzles. We should be able to get it all to fit.

It's a little bit sad that i'm leaving. i'm going to miss the people i work with and all the friends i've made here. they've all been extremely supportive - everyone knows someone on the east coast. i think if i get sad there i'll have to try and meet some of these friends of friends. friday night i have to figure out what to eat for dinner. mike & i are going to eat with felix and brendan (if we can find him), but i have to decide what i'll miss eating in Seattle. to tell the truth, i've been eating out so much i don't think i'm really concerned about missing anything at the moment. i guess we'll see if that changes in the coming months. One really bad thing is that my mom says that there are no Chinese grocery stores in baltimore... i dont' know how i'm going to cope with that one. I'll find out soon enough. Otherwise I may be visiting NYC more often than I had planned...

i've heard things about typepad, but it's a pay service, and it's built on movabletype anyway, so you might have the same problems.
if you want to use wordpress, there's a program called ecto which basically works as a frontend to various weblog systems (typepad, movabletype, wordpress, drupal, nucleus, blogger, etc). it's native to mac, but there's a windows version as well. i've never used it, but boingboing.net uses it, and i've heard of it from other places as well.

I couldn't believe that there were no Chinese grocery stores in Baltimore, so I did some googling.

There you go. Now you won't have to suffer without Chinese groceries.

The other day I went to a Korean grocery store and bought a bunch of random stuff, then came home and googled for recipes that used the ingredients I'd bought. I wound up making a custard with coconut milk. Yummy!

you jinxed me; i just had to delete a spam comment from some card game website whose name i cannot write or this comment will be blocked.
However, the newest block list for mt-blacklist includes the urls for said card game related websites, and I don't think it blocks a comment that just writes about it, only if it includes the URL.

you can get it here: http://www.jayallen.org/comment_spam/blacklist.txt

Actually, there are at least a couple decent Asian grocery stores around Baltimore. The Korean one is well stocked, mostly clean, and always busy:

There's a whole Asian wing of a mall at Security Square where Security Blvd and 695 intersect.

Ask Sophie Qiu for pointers. She helped me find these places.

If you find a source of sweet steamed custard buns, do tell. I've only found them in Rockville, MD.
